Cybersecurity. We all know it is important, but what steps are companies taking to deal with the very real cyber threats that businesses face every day?
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has just released its Nordic Cyber Crime Survey 2020 and it makes for frightening reading. According to the survey, 8 out of 10 companies in Sweden have had at least one cybersecurity incident during the past year. And 1 out of 3 companies report they have suffered from five or more (let that sink in!) attacks over the past year.
According to PwC, companies in Sweden are particularly vulnerable because they tend to be naïve. Digitalization has exploded and pushed business forward, but cybersecurity has not been able to keep up.
Cyber-attacks and incidents have increased dramatically in recent years in the form of ransomware, malware, CEO fraud mails, phishing mails, scams and social engineering - to mention just a few. As Sam Wallentin from PWC points out, "It's easy to do the wrong thing."
This is why companies need to up their game. Organizations need the help of their employees to protect company data because it is people who are the weakest link - 64% of incidents in Sweden are unwittingly caused by employees.
The solution? Raise awareness about why information security is important and give employees the tools they need to detect and stop the various cyber threats they might encounter in the workplace.
Cyber threats are no longer just an IT challenge. Dealing with them is a business imperative.
